Prying eyes! Make sure your PC is set up with some kind of privacy protection enabled as you turn it on. Your biggest threat is not "out there". It's from anyone else who has access to your machine, or your network. Use passwords to log on, and have more than one user account set up so you don't accidentally lock yourself out of your machine. Another good idea is to have a backup power source in place, in case of a failure. As for anti-whatever software, check them out for yourself. Watch out for freeware scams and free trials that don't work until you buy them. You are much better off just buying a good quality program over the counter. Keep in mind that it is possible and even likely that your anti spyware program will itself be spying on you. Don't laugh, it happens!

Well you gotta be protected from...... Viruses, Spyware, Malware, Adware, Worms. First off always install windows updates. The windows updates help protect your computer from vulnerabilities ( sorta like exploits). Then I'd reccomend getting a good antivirus that's free, Avira has the highest detection rate I also don't reccomend getting avg it has one of the poorest detection rates and has no rootkit removal. So now that Avira is the highest detection rate of free antivirus you need a on demand scanner such as malwarebytes anti-malware. TO protect you from DDoS attacks you need a good firewall Zonealarm firewall has alaways been good to me and its the only one iv used. Sorry but you can't use 1 program simply because certain programs perform certain things better. A paid version of avira has a firewall but zonealarms firewall is better if you get what im saying.

Don't bother going to the website the other user provided, http://www.shockawenow.net, its a scam.

I recommend two programs, both of which are free: Malwarebytes Anti-Virus and AVG Anti Virus.

You use Malwarebytes to deep-scan your computer for viruses, malware, rootkits, and adware, while AVG protects you actively. (aka, while you browse the internet, download things, and all of that) You can still scan your computer with AVG though.

Malwarebytes Anti Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
AVG Anti Virus: http://www.avg.com/us-en/homepage

The first thing you must do is be very careful of the websites you visit and any links you decide to click on. Secondly, there isn't any one particular software, paid for or free, that can detect everything. Hundreds of viruses are released hourly, and it's difficult for the technicians to track them and write a solution for all of them so quickly. Whatever anti virus, anti malware, anti trojan you decide to install, just make sure you update it daily and know how to use it. One of the bets freebies out there is Microsoft Security Essentials. It's "real time" protection and you can set it up to update and run automatically. Also free and very good is Malwarebytes ( .org ) and SUPERAntiSpyware. Just remember to only run one anti virus protection at a time so they don't conflict with one another.
