How can I access ubuntu from windows 7?

hi guys (gals)
please bare with me
I have windows 7 install in my dell laptop. I install ubuntu and now i have dual boot options. Plus ubuntu was install directly to my hhd in just one download i didn't burn a disc or anything. how do I transfer files from windows 7 to ubuntu? I understand that not all files are compatible. I search and seen many articles about how to transfers file between the two OS but I need very specific instructions (am slow) I downloaded vmware but when I try to create a new virtual machine its asking me to install the OS. I want to learn how to use ubuntu but I need more access to windows. I hope you guys can help me guide me in the right direction.

Thanks
Mike

Parallel use of OS can be done in server system, though most of the servers run in single OS.
In pc case, i suggest,
uninstall the Ubuntu, install vmware latest one in to W7 and create virtual HDD and specifies other systems like how much ram you want to use for that OS you're gonna install etc. Then install ubuntu inside the VMware Virtual drive. after completing install, the only thing that might bother, you have to log on to W7 first then start VMware to get into ubuntu. while using that , press alt+tab to get back on W7 and select the files you want to copy and press ctrl+c, then goto ubuntu again and press ctrl+v or paste.
It works for me, and i found no differences between using ubuntu via VMware or direct install.

ok so first thing, you can only run one of the operating systems at once, so if you are in windows you cant use ubuntu and vice versa. if you want to use windows and try ubuntu, then you need to download the iso for ubuntu and install that into a vmware machine.

If you want to use ubuntu and see windows files, say a picture or document thats simple, when ubuntu loads it will see the windows disc and list it under the places tab, navigate to this by clicking it and you can open the files as normal.

What it sounds like is you want windows with ubuntu as a virtual machine which is what the vmware is for, what you have done is install two operating systems that work independently on the same machine. so you need to go back and start that again.
