utilizing a minimalist centos linux distribution for running virtual machines?


i run a full-bloated centos 5.5 host operating system on top of the hardware, then i run an windows xp guest through vmware workstation 7. it seems to run okay until i get to heavy tasks that require more compute cycles. i'm wondering if i reinstall the centos host and i minimal system with fluxbox/blackbox gui and just vmware workstation if it would speed it up. so basically just trim the fat out of the system and turn off most of the processes/daemons except for what's necessary to secure it with SELinux and vmware workstation. dual booting is out of the question. so i'll have a windows vm for windows programs and a linux vm for linux programs and a stripped-down host to run the system.

garfield 		Granted any Window manager is going to be lighter on it's feet than a desktop enviroment, but on a descent machine I honestly don't think you'd see much of a difference, you'll probably save more video ram than anything which I doubt will do much. You don't have to re-install anything, just use Fluxbox in place of GNOME, check your system monitor and see if it makes a difference on your resource load.
