Microsoft Word 2003 Crashes everytime I try to type something, how do I fix this?


When I open microsoft word and press any key on the keyboard to start typing something, a pop up with an error message occurs and shuts down the program.

I'm using Windows XP.

meowmeow 		The first poster could be correct, ... if you have the MS Office CD I would reinstall (this may not mean uninstall and reinstall ... SOME PROGRAMS have "repair" features ... I am HONESTLY not sure if MS Office is one of them)

IF AN UNINSTALL and reinstall of MS is needed (aka "no repair option") that may help... if the problem persists I would A) Google the problem as sometimes you can find people with the same issue that have fixed it.

B) Look into an MS office alternative (I have Libre, Open, AND MS Office 2003 student ed. installed on my new 500GB laptop ... not that even more than 1 is needed ... just stating that other than "arguing" over which one is the default office suite for certain file types .. they work just fine together on the same system.

Both Libre and Open Office can open and save MS Office formats and the only issue I ever had is going back and forth from MS office .. SOMETIMES "bullets" do not line up 100% correctly.

Open Office - FREE - ( http://www.openoffice.org/ ) This is the most well known alternative and is Open Source and depsite what some say, IT CAN read and write ALL MS office formats. It started out as "Star Office" I beleive years ago and after "Sun Microsystems" had issues with Microsoft, the open source (I think) Star Office was developped into Open Office.

Libre Office - FREE - ( http://www.libreoffice.org/ ) This is one I read about in PCWorld Magizine and I felt I had to try. I am not 100% sure on how it was made but it has to do with Oracle "parnering" or something to that effect with Open Office and some programmers didn't like that so they (like what happened with Star office in a way) ... branched out with Libre Office.

meowmeow 		Trying changing the font you are using. If you are using an unusual font and there's an error in the font file, it might crash the application using it.
