Is there any way to mod a formatted xbox?


I recently found my old original xbox, and I've never been one to let things go to waste. A buddy of mine still has an original xbox that's been thoroughly modified to use the xbox 360 dashboard and play emulators and all sorts of things.
Mine, however, doesn't even work properly because the drive has been formatted.

Would it be at all possible to install a modded operating system on the xbox's drive?
