I need advice on hardware!?

I want to upgrade my current computer which runs on a AMD Sempron 3150 with 1gb 800ghz ddr2 ram with integrated 6150 graphics. The only problem is that I am on a budget of 400$ and I am willing to go over only if it's worth it. I do not want to completely upgrade my computer, I'm only interested in upgrading my cpu, motherboard and ram. The motherboard and ram is not my concern, but it's the cpu. I was thinking about getting an i5 2500k but it seems a bit out of my price range (total was 450$ with taxes), but I am willing to do it if it's honestly worth it. I also was considering a 1090T, which totaled up to 400$. I am honestly not sure if I even need to go that far, since I mostly use my computer for business type work. Lots of word processing, but I am also interested in using vmware so that I can run the operating system that I use for work at the same time. I do not need high graphics performance but I could definitely use a faster processor. I have another computer that is running on a phenom and I can really tell the difference. As for the power supply, hard drive..etc.. I have a 500w corsair which I purchased a year ago and I have older western digital drives which I don't have a problem with. Soo Any advice? (:

For ram, get 4GB's of DDR3 ram. for a cpu I would get a AMD 955. For a motherboard, idk. Make sure it supports the CPU though. I think the AMD 955 is a AM3 socket type.

Why in the world should an upgrade to the Core i5-2500k processor be $450?

-If you don't plan to overclock or you're willing to use the Intel HD 2000 graphics then get an i5-2500 or i5-2400. With the 2500k you will get the Intel HD 3000 onboard graphics if you have a H67 motherboard.

-If you don't have a dedicated graphics card and you aren't going to Overclock then get an H67 motherboard. A good one is between $100-130.

-4gb of DDR is down to $35. It was almost triple the price in May of 2010.

If you need more graphics power then get an AMD A8 quad-core CPU. The onboard video that some on an A8 cpu is much faster than what Intel has to offer. however, the A8 processor is somewhat slower.

if you have amd motherboard, intel will never fit on that board, if not, I would still go with amd.

amd x 4 925 2.8ghz 95watt quad keep your memory and buy a gtx 460 and 4gb of ram, if you have money left over get a 620 neo antec

you will be able to run everything you want to play any game you here of for the next three years

sell your 1gb and your 500 power supply on ebay or craigslist good luck man
