Snapshot synchronization - Single VMware image to many hosts?


I have a VMware image that contains a complete development environment for my work. I keep the image on my laptop which I use throughout the day. I would like also to copy the same image to a much more powerful desktop hardware at night where I can continue fixing bugs and developing and in the process freeing my laptop resources. I would like then to synchronize those changes that have occurred back to the laptop upon shutdown of the VMware system.

I understand that with snapshots enabled, it maybe possible to just move the snapshots back to the laptop, and I could continue from where I left off. I want a much more automated system for doing this and was considering writing a tool to do the differential directory copy so all the snapshots are moved back to the laptop after finishing with the image from the desktop host.

I know that there will be very obvious replication conflict issues to resolve, but I don't care about losing changes from one particular set of snapshots as long as I can resolve the conflict by choosing which snapshots to retain from which host.

It maybe something very obvious that can be done with VMware snapshot manager, but I cannot find the answer in the documentation or online resources. Please help!
