Need help with choosing a good Firewall and having problems with automatic updates?

Just recently I have had problems with some vicious Malware viruses. I am unsure how they keep infecting my computer but it just gets worse every time I encounter them. I have already dealt with MS tools Malware virus, twice. And I just recently dealt with "XP security 2011." XP security 2011 was by far the worst yet and I am not planning on dealing with it again any time soon.

So since I have two different virus programs which are Combofix and Malwarebytes, I figure I need a firewall now because I highly doubt there is anything strong enough protecting me other than the Windows security center firewall.

Since I managed to eliminate the XP Security 2011 virus which had devastating effects on my computer, I am now left with my Windows Security center without the capability to update. I have already tried to fix this by going to the Microsoft site and I have manually tried turning the updates on. I suspect the XP security 2011 virus had disabled the Windows updates. I am still doubtful I had gotten rid

A bit of clarity for you:
A firewall does NOT stop malware: it only looks at incoming data bundle 'headers' to verify it was requested. That's analogous to looking at the envelope of a letter, to verify the 'addressee' and the 'return address' was one it expected to get.
It does not 'look' at the contents of the packet (what's inside the envelope), nor does it have analytic capability...your layered defenses should be doing that function.

Your repeated infections indicate you need to 'tighten up' your browser (which automatically asks for all "assets" when you click a link.
First, clean up what you now have. "MalwareBytes" seems to work for these 'rogue' Windows infections.

After sanitizing the system, stop using Internet Explorer and get Firefox with "NoScript" add on, which prevents installations by JavaScripted malware.
Many of the items listed here will help keep your browsing sessions cleaner:

Much, much more needs to be done, but this is the price you pay for using Windows on the Internet.
