Activating a Blackberry on Verizon with out the data plan?


Hello I just recently lost my phone and was looking to buy a new one on eBay. I don't currently have a data plan and have activated phones before by just calling a verizon phone number and activating my number. Is it possible to do it with a Blackberry because I don't want to spend unnecessary money. Thanks!

garfield 		Verizon requires a data plan for all smartphones.

A BlackBerry without data is pretty useless anyway.
